R. Todd Sherpy
Todd Sherpy is a founding partner in Sherpy & Jones, P.A, of Lexington, South Carolina. Todd and his team are dedicated to serving the legal needs of credit unions and have attained a national reputation for their work in legal auditing, compliance, and bankruptcy/collections. Todd has also authored CUNA's RegTraC and VAP training modules and serves as editor of Credit Union Legal News©.
Joy Lee
Joy recently assumed the position of director of supervision in the office of examination and insurance with the National Credit Union Association, where she started as an examiner in Dallas, TX in 1987. She has served the agency in several positions including supervision analyst, problem case officer, supervisory examiner, associate regional director of operations for Region 2, and associate regional director of programs.
Mary-Lou Heighes, CUCE
Mary-Lou has been involved in the credit union movement since 1989. She has been involved in all areas of credit union operations: general operations, marketing, collections, lending, and compliance. She is a CUNA certified Credit Union Compliance Expert (CUCE) and is president of Compliance Plus, Inc., which provides strategic planning, training, compliance, and consulting services to credit unions. Mary-Lou was the senior research and information consultant for the California/Nevada Credit Union League for seven years, and since founding her company in 2000, has provided training for credit unions and leagues around the country. Prior to her tenure at the league, she spent five years in the credit union trenches.
Bill Berg
Bill has been with the Florida Credit Union League since 1988 as the vice president of compliance. Prior to joining the league, Bill worked for eleven years for the Federal Reserve of Atlanta – Jacksonville Branch. Bill answers technical/regulatory questions via the telephone system or through email; provides customized training to credit unions, chapters, and other groups; writes a column for the FCUL News; maintains InfoSight (The FCUL's Online Compliance System); and facilitates planning sessions.
Woody Hodgdon, CUCE, BSACS
Woody is a Credit Union Compliance Expert (CUCE), Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Specialist (BSACS), and is the national compliance manager for Addison Avenue Federal Credit Union (formerly HP Employees FCU) in Palo Alto, California. Addison Avenue FCU serves employees of Hewlett Packard, Agilent Technologies, Philips Electronics, and several other related employers in the United States and Puerto Rico. Prior to accepting his current job, Woody spent 17 years at HP Rocky Mountain Federal Credit Union in Loveland, Colorado which eventually merged with the other HP credit unions to form Addison Avenue FCU. He spent three years as an agent for CUNA Mutual in northern Colorado prior to starting his management career with credit unions. Woody has been involved in credit union management, operations, marketing, and compliance issues for more than 30 years. He is a graduate of Western CUNA Management School in Pomona, California. He is a 1980's graduate of CUNA's Regulatory Compliance School and attends annual update sessions to stay current. Woody has lectured to many groups about bankruptcy, the Americans with Disabilities Act, financial counseling, home banking, and risk-based lending. Woody is a charter member of the National Credit Union Institute and earned the Dean's List with Highest Honors designation.
Allen Leslie
Allen is a manager with the Credit Union Compliance Consulting Group of RSM McGladrey, Inc. with over 20 years of financial institution experience including regulatory compliance, loan administration, quality control, underwriting, process flow development, secondary marketing, internal audit, and loan review. Allen has spoken at numerous credit union conferences, including national director/supervisory committee conferences sponsored by RSM McGladrey, the AICPA's national credit union conference, and regional conferences sponsored by the Association of Credit Union Internal Auditors (ACUIA) and many state leagues and associations. He was a regulatory compliance instructor for NCUA and state examiner in 2002 and 2003.
Prior to joining RSM McGladrey, Allen held senior underwriting and quality control positions with two national mortgage lending companies. His previous financial institution experience includes over eight years with a major southeastern regional bank, in the areas of loan administration, credit analysis, commercial loan underwriting and review, compliance, portfolio risk management, monitoring and management of nonperforming assets, and loan pricing; and five years with a state-chartered credit union with responsibilities for consumer lending, branch operations, and branch audits.
Jane Pannier
Jane is the executive vice president of Counter Intelligence Associates, a consulting firm for financial institutions. Jane specializes in compliance training and audits, risk based lending projects, strategic planning, operational reviews, and management and sales training. Previously, Jane served as senior compliance counsel and director of the regulatory compliance department for NAFCU. She has more than 16 years of credit union experience as credit manager, director of research and development, VP of marketing, and CEO.
Ann Davidson
Ann is the credit union protection product expert for CUNA Mutual Group in Madison, Wisconsin. Ann is responsible for the development of policies, guidelines, and procedures for all products and value-added services of Credit Union Protection. She also obtains company information on claims, underwriting, risk management and outside vendors (ie: card processors, card companies,) as it relates to products and services.
Dave Van Horn
Dave is the vice president of operations and risk infrastructure with Visa U.S.A. In this role he is responsible for a variety of risk and operations initiatives within the processing products division of Visa U.S.A. Among those initiatives, he is responsible for the Account Data Compromise Recovery (ADCR) program.
Susan Rogers
Susan Rogers is a Property & Casualty Specialist with CUNA Mutual Group, serving credit unions on the west coast and Colorado.
Joining CMG in 2003, Susan had worked with credit unions since 1994 after joining the Colorado and Wyoming Credit Union Leagues as an Education Coordinator. Susan organized and designed the Teller Training Institute for the CCUL after working in the financial services industry for 10 years. She has trained hundreds of credit staff members, volunteers and members on the topic of fraud prevention.
According to Rogers, the most satisfying part of her job is when a participant contacts her and tells her how "they were able to prevent a loss at the credit union because of something they learned during a session they attended".
David A. Reed
David A. Reed, founder of CU Doctor, is an author, consultant, and nationally recognized speaker. Reed provides guidance to credit unions concerning a variety of matters, including credit union policies and procedures, organizational compliance, collections, security, contractual agreements, regulatory matters, and corporate governance. A former bankruptcy attorney, vice president, and general counsel for a large credit union, Reed is particularly noted as an expert in the areas of bankruptcy and collections.
Franklin Drake
Franklin Drake joined the Raleigh, North Carolina law firm of Smith Debnam as an partner in April of 1994, after a 16 year practice specializing in creditor's rights, bankruptcy, and repossession law with William Mapother in Louisville, Kentucky. He was senior vice president of Mapother's law firm and is an owner of Smith Debnam.
Mr. Drake has practiced extensively in North Carolina, Kentucky, West Virginia and the federal courts of southern Indiana. He lectures frequently at practical skills courses for attorneys and paralegals, and at bankruptcy and compliance training programs for NASCUS, regulatory agencies and state credit union leagues across the country. He has published a number of articles on bankruptcy and collections law over 20 years.
For the past 29 years, he has advised and represented most of the nation's major financers on secured lending and bankruptcy matters. He has specialized in representing credit unions for more than two decades.
Kathleen Thompson
Kathleen Thompson is senior vice president and associate general counsel for the Credit Union National Association. For almost 30 years, she has represented credit unions before the National Credit Union Administration, the Federal Reserve Board, the Treasury Department, the Federal Trade Commission, and other federal agencies. She is currently focusing her efforts on increasing CUNA's compliance information to leagues and credit unions, and on providing assistance in the drafting of legislation and the preparation of testimony for Congress. Kathleen appears regularly before credit union groups to discuss current congressional and regulatory events and to present compliance seminars.
Jennifer Maisano
Jennifer is an MBA and senior manager with 18 plus years experience, eight years experience as vice president and executive level risk management, including credit bureau management, vendor management, credit policy, pre-screen acquisitions, fraud risk and project management positions in both the financial and consulting industries. She has extensive experience in project research, process reengineering, and strategic planning resulting in $20M+ operational risk savings per year in application fraud and identity theft losses, as well as other credit processing financial savings.
